Air India pilots to follow Anna Hazare: Fast from Sunday

Thundering clouds never call to stop for Air India national carrier even after marking 50 days strike as A total of 444 agitator pilots announced to follow Anna Hazare’s foot steps to fight with AI by going on a hunger strike from Sunday.

“We have received the mandatory clearances for going on a hunger strike. Eight members of our union will sit on fast from Sunday at Jantar Mantar here,” Rohit Kapahi, committee member of Indian Pilots’ Guild (IPG), told reporters. Read more

Calling an illegal strike, he confirmed media, “It is for the Air India management to take action now. These pilots have not come to work for more than 30 days….It is an illegal strike. They have defied the High Court.” Read more

Air India will hire new pilots, says Ajit Singh

In yet another crackdown in the pilots strike, the Air India has now announced to hire 100 pilots, huge number of them would be co-pilots in place of the 400-odd pilots of erstwhile AI who have been on strike for almost a month.

While talking to media on Wednesday, the Civil aviation minister Ajit Singh said, “The strike is over for us as the striking pilots have refused accept the Dharmadhikari committee report, which is part of the airline’s turnaround plan and I don’t think there is any point in their coming back.” Read more

International federation plans to ban Air India

The national airline Air India’s financial position seems to be falling down as causing a loss of Rs 200 crore by 13 days long agitation of AI pilots in protest against management, AI also has piled up about Rs 454 crore of tax dues.

“The total service tax dues of Air India are Rs 395 crore. We will recover interest at the rate of 15 per cent. Once the capital infusion happens, the company will repay the dues,” airline official sources told reporters. Read more
