American Serena Williams won the last four games to beat top ranked Victoria Azarenka of Belarus 6-2, 2-6 and 7-5 to take her fourth US Open title and 15th Grand Slam title overall here Sunday.
Serena had a 9-1 record against Azarenka prior to the final and she hadn’t dropped a set in the tournament, losing only 19 games through six matches before Sunday, reports Xinhua. Read more
As per the latest sports updates, the ace Indian tennis player Sania Mirza has said in a press release that her target is to get gold medal at the London Olympics 2012, as she is fit to make a comeback after a serious injury.
Meanwhile, she did not played any tournament in the last year due to her knee injury, and made a comeback to the court in Auckland two weeks ago.
The 25-year-old tennis player had faced many injuries in her career including a chronic wrist injury that forced her to miss large tournaments in 2008, 2009 and in 2010.
Sania Mirza is ranked 106 in the world ranking and she lost the qualifying match against and failed in the first round of the Australian Open on Monday, going down 6-4, 6-2 to Bulgaria’s Tsvetana Pironkova. Read more
