Olympian icon, boxer Vijender Singh is under scanner of Punjab Police in a jolt of drug bust in Mohali, Punjab, after arrest of two pugilists allegedly running the racket with 26 kg of heroin worth Rs 130 crore.
Police is likely to question Olympic bronze medalist Vijender Singh and his room-mate and fellow boxer Ram Singh who is now a havildar in the Punjab police, in connection with the case on basis of the much shocked detail revealed by NRI drug smuggler Anoop Singh Kahlon.
Vijender Singh and another boxer Ram Singh, both were the clients of accused NRIs who have built an international chain, allegedly received drugs to them, police said.
The car of Vijender’s wife Archana Singh was found from outside the NRI Kahlon’s house where drug bust of heroin worth Rs 130 crore was recovered in Zirakpur, outside Chandigarh. However, the car had reportedly lent to Ram Singh, who had in turn given the car to Kahlon, sources said, added Kahlon had several time used other cars belonging to Vijender allegedly for drugs supply.
Meanwhile, case has registered by Fatehgarh Sahab Police and investigations are on. Still role of Vijender in the case to examined but no clean chit given to him yet.
Denying all allegations, boxer Vijender told reporters, I have no links with Kahlon. I met him on a couple of occasions, but he is not my friend.
I have never taken any drugs and nothing was found in my car. I was in Mumbai for some work and parked my car at NIS Patiala. Vijender said that he didn’t know how his car reached Zirakpur.
Vijendra being a DSP with the Haryana Police is training at NIS, Patiala for the World Championships to be held in October. While Ram Singh who was also being trained with Vijender has been detained and is being questioned, source added.
