Indian-origin scientist Ramakrishnan honoured with knighthood

Indian origin scientist Ramakrishnan 300x277 Indian origin scientist Ramakrishnan honoured with knighthoodIndia-born US citizen, Venkatraman Ramakrishnan, who had won Nobel Prize in chemistry in 2009 for pioneering work in molecular biology, recently has been honoured with a knighthood by the royal establishment in London.

In an announcement made by an official, Ramakrishnan has been honoured knighthood “for services to molecular biology” in the New Year Honours List 2012, in a rare recognition of achievements by foreigners based in Britain.

However 58-year-old Ramakrishnan is based at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology in Cambridge and the honouring him with a knighthood reflects the contribution made by immigrants to British society.

While a fresh list released today, Ramakrishnan said in a statement, “In the current debate about immigration, it is worth noting that this award is yet another example of the numerous contributions that immigrants make to British society.” Read more

Google Doodles are changes that are made the Google logo more decorative to celebrate holidays, anniversaries, and the lives of famous artists and scientists.

However last week with a colorful neon design with images of a snowflake, Santa Claus, bell, candle and a gift box on a black background, had been featured Google’s Doodle for wishing its users “Happy Holidays”.

Recently Doodle has featured with colorful letters in the word “Google” that wearing decorative caps and blowing trumpets, balloons and the second letter of ‘g’ of ‘Google’ wears the year 2012′s goggles, all this seems of being attending a New Year party. Read more

MP to get 50mw solar power from NTPC from 2013

An agreement regarding the supply of electricity from a 50 mw solar plant, has been proposed by State-run generation utility NTPC to Madhya Pradesh Power Trading Company (MP Tradeco).

NTPC has also tied up in form of a joint venture with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Japan’s Kyuden International Corporation (Kyushu) for generation of 500 mw from renewable sources in the next five years.

On the basis of such biggest unit agreement in the country, NTPC proposes to build the solar power plant at Rajgarh and start feeding the grid by 2013. Such the solar power deal has been decided when govt. made clarification from all Central public sector companies to set up renewable energy projects as part of efforts to boost sustainable development.
