Delhi Rape Victim dies at Singapore’s Mount Elizabeth Hospital

The victim of Delhi Gang Rape, 23-years-old girl died on Saturday morning in a Singapore hospital after fighting for life for almost 13-long days. It is said in news that the girl was struggling for life and at the end she lost her fight and took her last breath at around 2:15 am [IST] today morning.

However, security has been tightened in New Delhi and the body of the girl would be flew to India by a special plane till evening.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, President Pranab Mukherjee and Congress Chief Sonia Gandhi expressed their sadness on the death of the girl.

Talking to media, the chief executive of Singapore’s Mount Elizabeth Hospital, Kelvin Loh said in statement, “She had suffered from severe organ failure following serious injuries to her body and brain.”

Further, Kelvin Loh said, “She was courageous in fighting for her life for so long against the odds but the trauma to her body was too severe for her to overcome.”

On December 16, the girl along with her male friend was attacked by six drunk men in a private bus and they raped her and hit her with iron rods and threw her out of the moving bus. They also beat her male friend.

The girl was shifted to Singapore for better treatment on Tuesday.

In his condolence message, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said, “We have already seen the emotions and energies this incident has generated.”

He added, “These are perfectly understandable reactions from a young India and an India that genuinely desires change.”
