Geetika suicide case: Gopal Kandas bail plea rejected by Delhi HC

According to latest news, the Delhi High Court has rejected the anticipatory bail application of ex-Haryana minister Gopal Kanda in the Geetika suicide case.

The former minister filled application for bail after the Delhi police declared him absconding. Earlier, the Delhi police raids Kanda’s homes in Delhi and Sirsa.

However, Kanda’s lawyer told media that there is no evidence that Gopal Kanda is related to Geetika’s suicide case.

Though, police had already arrested Aruna Chaddha, another accused in the case, was remanded to 2-day police custody for further investigation. Police said that she is not cooperating in the probe.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) Devender Kumar Jangala sent Aruna Chaddha to police custody till August 11.

Police said that Aruna Chaddha’s name was clearly written in Geetika’s suicide note and she is a key aspect of this case.

Chaddha’s advocate, BS Rana however, opposed the plea for police custody saying that Delhi police team said that Chaddha is required for custodial interrogation is not a ground to remand her to police custody.

The ACMM said, “The name of the accused was mentioned in the suicide note of the deceased… In view of the material on record and in view of the IO’s submission, the two-day police custody remand of the accused is granted as prayed.”

Geetika Sharma, 23-years old, a former air hostess with Gopal Kanda’s MDLR airline, writes in her suicide note, “she was ending her life due to harassment by Kanda and MDLR official Chaddha.”
