The flop is still on for the Indian cricket team, as team India lost the 1st ODI against England by 9 runs. The first ODI between India and England was played at Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Rajkot on January 11.
Earlier, England won the toss and elected to bat first. Both the England openers gave good start to their team and completed their half-centuries.
England captain Alastair Cook and opener Ian Bell made superb 75 runs and 85 runs, respectively.
Down the order, quick runs were made by Kevin Pietersen and Eoin Morgan, making nice 44 runs and 41 runs, respectively. But the turning point of the match was the 40 runs knock by Samit Patel of just 20 balls hitting 6 fours and one huge six. England made 325 runs for the loss of four wickets in their 50-overs.
Batting second, India started their innings nicely, opener Gautam Gambhir and Ajinkya Rahane agve good start to the team and the first wicket fell in the 17th over. Rahane made 47 runs. Gautam Gambhir was the nest to go in the 19th over.
Middle-order batsmen Virat kohli once again failed to impress with his bat and fell cheaply for just 15 runs.
Yuvraj Singh and Suresh Raina played superb knock of 61 runs and 50 runs, respectively. Captain cool, MS Dhoni played some good cricketing shorts hitting four sixes. But that was not enough for the team.
From England bowlers, James Tredwell as the pick of the bowlers, he took 4 wickets giving away 44 runs.
