Mamata Banerjee nominee Mukul Roy as new Railway Minister

Tuesday will be swearing –in ceremony of Trinamool Congress nominee Mukul Roy as the next railways minister who will response to the rail budget debate in Parliament later this week.

After a move of party Chief Mamata Banerjee referenced Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to accept her application in favour of Roy, her first choice as the railways minister.

On Monday after a 20-minute meeting with Banerjee, Mr.Singh granted the approval of Roy as Railway Minister.

During discussion on the motion of thanks in Lok Sabha, PM announced his decision of Trivedi’s departure from the cabinet and said, “Trivedi presented a rail budget that had promised to carry out the Vision 2020 outlined by his predecessor (Banerjee).”

Revealing expectation from Roy, Singh said, “new railways minister…will have the onerous duty of carrying forward the challenging task of modernising our rail system.”

Singh did not want to agree on Banerjee’s nomination because it was the Roy, 61, whom in July last year Mr. Singh had reportedly rejected Banerjee’s choice of Roy as the railways minister, Trinamool had to nominate Dinesh Trivedi for the post.

Being pressured from the Party leaders at the time of deceasing situation, Mr. Singh has to make this. “The difficult decisions that we have to take are made more difficult by the fact that we are a coalition government and we have to evolve policy keeping in mind the need to maintain a consensus,” Singh added.
