As a move to spread the message of ‘safe driving’ in the country, Indian lawmakers assembled in New Delhi on Saturday to joins the vintage car rally, which was flagged off by Vice-President Mohammad Hamid Ansari.
It is said that Indian roads are among world most dangerous roads, claiming numbers of lives every year. During the flagging off the rally, Hamid Ansari told media that hopefully the rally will encourage people to drive safely.
He said, “If due to this rally, residents of Delhi can learn traffic rules, it would really be great.”
Meanwhile, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson, Shahnawaz Hussain also supported the rally and the cause behind it.
Talking to media, Hussain said, “More than 100,000 people die because of accidents every year in the country and to create awareness, under the aegis of Rajiv Pratap Rudy (lawmaker of the BJP) this event is happening. We have also seen that some big leaders have also died in road accidents. So to create awareness this vintage car rally is being organised here. I believe that people of the country will be informed because of this rally. This is a great step and as lawmakers run the country, they could drive cars also.”
Further, Congress Member of Parliament Naveen Jindal said, “This rally highlights the advantages of safe driving. In this rally, who drives the fastest will not be first, but one who adheres to the rules will emerge victorious. In such events, lawmakers also get a chance to meet outside the parliament. So this rally is being organised to increase safety measures on roads and decrease the number of accidents.”
