Mumbai violence: Crime branch calls a probe, 23 arrest

Amid violent in Mumbai, around 23 people have been arrested by Mumbai Crime Branch on charge of sections of IPC, having connection in Azad Maidan riots where they protested against Assam ethnic clashes.

As per Police report, the lives of two youths were lost while 55 including 45 policemen, injured in this riots. It has been said that two self- loading rifles and a pistol had snatched by the mob from woman police personnel when riots carried on.

But now situation is under control due to tight security by more than hundreds of forces deployed at site.

“The situation has been normal since Saturday evening. We have deployed a heavy police force in the vicinity of Azad Maidan,” an officer source said.

Source said, members of BJP delegation will meet Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan on Sunday and put light on this violent issue. However, a Crime Branch probe has been ordered by the govt. to investigate that whether protest organizers has made any inflammatory speech and raise the incident.

Raza Academy had called a peaceful protest against Assam ethnic riots and demanded to provide better secure right to minority community. But agitators who held a protest rally burnt BEST buses, vehicles, damaging shops by petting stones. Within few hours, protest turned violent.
