Poor mental health may Premature Death

Symptoms of psychological and mental disturbances such as depression and health problems have alarmed risk of death as shorten lifespan, as per latest and large study.

The study, published in the British Medical Journal, is based on the data collected from 68,000 adults aged 35 years and over who took part in the health Survey for England from 1994 to 2004 regarding their metal health problems of depression by the General Health Questionnaire GHQ-12. Researchers from UCL (University College London) and the University of Edinburgh have analysed it.

They analyzed that a quarter of people reported symptoms of anxiety or depression had a lower life than those do not have symptoms. They also found that mentally disturb people have higher risk of death from cardiovascular disease, cancer, heart disease or from several external causes.

Poor health is linked with less healthy life, even, people who experienced psychological distress symptoms may be associated more due to biological changes.

“These associations also remained after we did our best to take into account other factors such as weight, exercise, smoking, alcohol consumption and diabetes. Therefore, this increased mortality is not simply due to people with higher levels of psychological distress having poorer health behaviours,” Senior author David Batty, from the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health at UCL, told reporters.

Those who are not take medical assistance while seeking minor symptoms of depression or anxiety, have to treat at that time when they sought because it could reduce the increased risk of premature death.
