President Pranab Mukherjee’s son wins Jangipur by-poll

Latest political news states, Son of President Pranab Mukherjee and Congress candidate, Abhijit Mukherjee has won the Jangipur Lok Sabha by-election by 2,536 votes defeating his nearest CPI-M rival Muzaffar Hussain.

Briefing to media, Election Commission sources said, Abhijit received around 3,32,919 votes, and his opposite the CPI-M candidate polled 3,30,383 votes.

The third candidate from BJP, Sudhangshu Biswas received 85,867 votes.

There were two independent candidates Raisuddin and Tahedul Islam who received 41,620 and 24,691 votes respectively.

Interestingly, Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress did not put up candidate in the by-poll from the Jangipur Lok Sabha even after breaking up Congress.

However, in 2009 Lok Sabha elections, Pranab Mukherjee won the same Jangipur Lok Sabha by-elections by big margin of over 1.28 lakh votes.

The seat was vacant after Pranab Mukherjee has been appointed as the President of India.
