The 17-years long cricketing career of star Australian cricketer comes to an end and Ponting made 8 runs in his last innings.

Ricky Ponting’s Test career came to an end just before lunch on the fourth day of the third Test against South Africa at the WACA on Monday.

The 37-years-old cricketer is the second highest run scorer in Test Cricket after India’s Sachin Tendulkar. He said in the eve of his 168th Test match that it would be his best.

On the other hand, the South African cricket team formed a guard of honour when Ponting strode to the crease, with the Tasmanian shaking hands with Proteas skipper Smith as he came out.

Ricky Ponting got off to the mark with his famous pull short for four off Morkel.

However, he soon lost his wicket for just 8 runs and South African spinner Robin Peterson took the prize wicket of Ponting. Ricky Ponting caught in the slips by Jacques Kallis to leave the hosts 102 for 3. The Australia cricket team is chasing a target of 632 runs for win.

After getting dismissed, Ponting started walk back to the pavilion but stopped and raises his bat and acknowledge the cheering crowd.

Meanwhile, the Australian cricketer completed his career with 13,378 Test runs at 51.85, including 41 centuries. He has the record of playing most Test matches for Australian, 168 Test matches. He shares this record with his predecessor as Australian captain, Steve Waugh.
