The Jaipur Literature Festival on Saturday rocked after sociologist and political psychologist Ashis Nandy made a controversial remark on backward castes belonging to Dalits and backward castes SC, ST and OBC.
As per Nandy’s statement on Corruption, all backward castes and Dalits were the strong reasoning factor of the corruption in the Indian society today.
“Most of the people who are doing corruption are people from OBC, SC and ST communities and as long as it remains Indian republic will survive,” he said, as per source.
He further added, “The maximum amount of corruption these days is by Dalits, the backward and the oppressed classes.”
Reports said that, the leader of Congress and BJP slammed Nandy’s statement which triggered a row with political parties as well as anger in backward communities.
It has been said that for his remark an action will have taken by police, and Jaipur Police Commissioner asked Fest organisers to clearify the matter.
Nandy, as per report, stood by his statement and said, “Let the police take action against me. I stand by what I have said.”
However, later Nandy apologized and clarified that his statement on corruption was misquoted.
