Beant Singh Indira Gandhi Bodyguard 150x150 SGPC’s honor to Indira Gandhis assassin Beant SinghToday is the 27th death anniversary of the late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and the country is paying homage to her, but Shiromani Akali Dal (B) backed Sikh’s single largest representative body Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) paid homage to one who killed Indira Gandhi, Beant Singh.

Reports have said that the SGPC also performed Bhog (ceremonial completion ) of Akhand Path (uninterrupted reading of Sri Guru Granth Sahib) in his memory.

On October 31, 1984, Indira Gandhi’s bodyguard Beant Singh and bodyguard Satwamt Singh had assassinated Indira Gandhiat her residence.

However, guards killed Beant Singh immediately after he shot fire on late Prime Minister but Satwant Singh and another conspirator Kehar Singh were hanged to death on January 6th, 1989.

People present during the occasion were Granthi (reader of Sikh scripture) , Golden Temple , Giani Rawel Singh , manager, Golden Temple, Harbans Singh Mallhi brother of Satwant Singh, Waryam Singh Agwan, in fact, intelligence agencies were also present in plain clothes to keep an eye on the event.

Though, top officials of SGPC or Jathedar of Takht’s chose to remain away from the programme. Group of Bhai Shaukin Singh , Hazoori Ragi (residential singer) , Golden Temple recited kirtan.

A siropa was given to Waryam Singh, Satwant Singh’s brother refused to give any statement on this. Waryam Singh said, “Beant Singh, Satwant Singh and Kehar Singh are the martyrs of Sikh nation and their anniversaries should be observed under the aegis of Akal Takht.”
