Today is the 27th death anniversary of the late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and the country is paying homage to her, but Shiromani Akali Dal (B) backed Sikh’s single largest representative body Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) paid homage to one who killed Indira Gandhi, Beant Singh.
Reports have said that the SGPC also performed Bhog (ceremonial completion ) of Akhand Path (uninterrupted reading of Sri Guru Granth Sahib) in his memory. Read more
After an assignation attempt on the Operation Bluestar’s major general Lt.Gen.Brar near Oxford Street in London, now raising more controversial row, the SGPC has honoured two assassins terrorist who had killed former Army chief Arun Shridhar Vaidya, the Tailor of Operation Bluestar 1984.
The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee backed by Shiromani Akali Dal has organized an event on the death anniversary of the two terrorists of the Khalistan Commando Force (KCF)-Harjinder Singh Jinda and Sukhdev Singh Sukha- in the Golden Temple, the committee honoured them with “martyrs” with religious prayers ‘bhog of Akhand Path’. The recent attack incident on Lt Gen (retd) KS Brar has once again started debate on Punjab government’s move to built a memorial dedicated to militants killed during the Operation Bluestar in Amritsar’s Golden Temple in 1984.
However, the construction work at the memorial hall is going on full swing but the Sikh community is divided into two groups. The ruling party in Punjab Shiromani Akali Dal (B) is in support of the memorial hall but the state Congress is opposed to it. Read more
Last Sunday night, Lt Gen KS Brar was attacked by four people in central London and as per him, the attempt to kill him was by “pro-Khalistan elements” leading his role in the 1984 “Operation Bluestar”.
“This was a pure assassination attempt on me. Even on Internet there are so many threats being sent to me to say that there have been many attempts on your life but they haven’t succeeded, but the next one will succeed. They’ve been after me.” Brar told a TV channel. Read more
