Today is the 27th death anniversary of the late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and the country is paying homage to her, but Shiromani Akali Dal (B) backed Sikh’s single largest representative body Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) paid homage to one who killed Indira Gandhi, Beant Singh.
Reports have said that the SGPC also performed Bhog (ceremonial completion ) of Akhand Path (uninterrupted reading of Sri Guru Granth Sahib) in his memory. Read more

The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee backed by Shiromani Akali Dal has organized an event on the death anniversary of the two terrorists of the Khalistan Commando Force (KCF)-Harjinder Singh Jinda and Sukhdev Singh Sukha- in the Golden Temple, the committee honoured them with “martyrs” with religious prayers ‘bhog of Akhand Path’. In a biggest crack-down in the case of Bibi Jagir Kaur, Senior Punjab minister was today found guilty by a Patiala court of conspiracy in the death of her own daughter, harpreet Kaur, in April 2000.
It is said in reports that Jagir Kaur was sentenced to 5-years rigorous imprisonment. Though, the Patiala court dropped murder charges against Bibi Jagir Kaur.
The much talked Punjab minister, Bibi Jagir Kaur was appointed in the state as the minister for rural water supply and sanitation and defence services. She was convicted by the special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court in Patiala. Read more
The Punjab state has been on a very high alert today as a one-day long state-wide bandh has been called yesterday by several Sikh groups in the state to protest against a Chandigarh court order that Balwant Singh Rajoana, main accused in the killing of former Chief Minister Beant Singh, be hanged as scheduled on March 31.
Reports have said that around 60,000 Punjab police personnel including 15 companies of para-military forces have been deployed in the various parts of the state to avoid any mis-happening ahead of Balwant Singh Rajoana’s execution.
Punjab government has fixed prohibitory orders under Section 144 banning gathering of five or more persons were at various places in view of the bandh. Read more
