Zinc supplement can cut infant deaths: Study

The kids who are suffering from serious bacterial infections such as pneumonia and meningitis, zinc could be a wonder cure for them as a supplement along with antibiotics, as per latest study.

The study conducted in Delhi by the Department of Biotechnology under the Union Ministry of Science and Technology over 700 babies aged between seven and 120 days showed that by giving Zinc with antibiotics to babies, 40 per cent reduction in treatment failure and 43% in death among babies suffering from bacterial sepsis.

Infant mortality rate still high in Gujarat

Claiming of high medical services facility, Gujarat has still high Infant Mortality Rate (IMR).

Although State health minister Jaynarayan Vyas informed that the Gujarat govt. has been working for put control over Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) that in 2009 fell from 48 per 1,000 live births to 44 per 1,000 live births in 2010.
