Punjab polls 274x300 Elections 2012: High turnout in Punjab and UttarakhandThe high polling in Punjab and in Uttarakhand are of more than 70% and now next round of assembly elections goes to UP and smaller but no less hard fought showdown in Goa.

As compared to previous record, this year more enthusiasm showed in people for voting which resulted in massive turnout in Punjab and Uttrakhand polling. On Monday, early morning voters’ response was less but as the day proceeds the numbers of voters had increased with a huge response in voting.

In Punjab, around 1,078 candidates were contesting and getting votes for 117 seats in assembly polls. The turnout in Punjab is estimated that of 77%, high as compare to 75% in 2007.

While in Uttrakhand, a big response was seen from people of State for voting 788 candidates for 70 seats. There was a massive rise in voting of 70 % than 59% in 2007. Read more

Under his first rally she went to the Kapurthala district where first guru of Sikhism, Sh. Guru Nanak Dev ji spent 14 years for enlightenment during his stay at Sultanpur Lodhi, and Sonia picked out this topic to addressing the public crowd for attracting them to vote.

To ensure party’s place in the district polls, she claimed that the SAD- BJP team were responsible for stopping the state’s development by spending only Rs 526 crores out of Rs 5,000 crore earmarked for NREGA.

Criticizing Badal govt. she commented, “In an agrarian state like Punjab people had to throw their potato crop. This reflects poorly on the state government. Atta-Daal would have stopped had the UPA government not provided funds.” Read more

News reports have said that Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal is slanting against his younger brother Gurdas.

Badal senior’s separated nephew Manpreet Singh Badal who earlier left Akalis and made his own party , is now campaigning against Badal government in the state.

Though, the Punjab Chief Minister has laughed off Manpreet’s predictions. Parkash Singh Badal has become the state CM four times.

Punjab Polls: Akali Dal and Congress party workers clash in Bhatinda

As the assembly election’s date come closer, the Punjab’s political parties are starting to fight it out.

According to the report, a verbal fight between workers of the ruling Shromani Akali Dal and the Congress at village Dyalpura Bhai turned to violent when four vehicles were smashed and many rounds were fired in the air.

All such drama was creating tension in the village and surrounding areas.

The actual fact was that the Congress party MLA Gurpreet Singh Kangar blocked the vehicle of Shromani Akali Dal candidate’s son accusing him of misuse of money in late evening. After some time Mr. Kangar called the police and claiming cash lying in the vehicle. Read more
