High security in Assam after ULFA messages intercepted

Assam Police have intensified security arrangements after intelligence inputs that the anti-dialogue faction of the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) led by Paresh Baruah alias Paresh Asom might try to attack police and security forces in the state.

The developments assume significance as the outfit had triggered two blasts in less than a week’s time – on last Saturday in Paltan Bazar area of Guwahati and at Doomdooma area in Upper Assam’s Tinsukia district – killing one security personnel and injuring 25 others.

Guwahati blast: 50 detained, ULFA claims responsibility

Police have detained 50 people following a grenade attack in the city’s Paltan Bazar area but police were yet to confirm the hand of any militant outfit, despite the ULFA claiming responsibility for the blast in which one man was killed.

The anti-talk faction of the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) Sunday emailed a statement to the media in Assam, claiming responsibility for the blast at Doomdooma in Tinsukia Thursday and the blast at Paltan Bazar Saturday evening.

Assam: 12 injured in Assam blast (Lead)

Twelve people, including three security personnel, were injured in a blast triggered by suspected militants in Assam’s Tinsukia district Thursday evening, police said.

Inspector General of Police (Law and Order) L.R. Bishnoi said that the blast took place at Gandhi Murti Chowk near Doomdooma township in the district around 6.40 p.m.

Assam Burning: Fresh violence hits Lower Districts

Amid fresh violence incidents rocked Lower Assam districts injured five persons including four women and a minor near Salakati railway station in Kokrajhar district of Assam on Sunday when wrongdoers attacked them.

In another violence hit Chirang district, seven persons were killed and one dead body with injury marks was recovered by Dhubri district
