The UN Security Council will meet on Monday at France’s request to examine the situation in Mali, according to an official statement.
Amid controversial threat raised in Mali as following France attacks by al-Qaeda-linked Islamist extremists who control northern Mali.
The meeting came three days after French led efforts to retake the north of the country. In support the Malian government, it started with a military operation in Mali Thursday against Islamist guerrillas.
Monday’s meeting is a French initiative to inform the council and discuss views between members of the council and with the UN secretariat, Brieuc Pont, France’s UN mission spokesman said, source said.
After Britain’s assistance to Mali troops with Military Air power, transporting foreign troops for fight with Islamists militants, UN Council moved towards Mali to assist it.
Moreover, to support air power to Mali troops, 400 French troops have been deployed , an RAF C17 cargo plane has arrived at a Paris airbase, while two more loaded with French armoured vehicles and other equipment will also in queue.
French President Francois Hollande who put high alert in own city, wants more security assistance in form of deployment of a 3,300 strong African intervention force by the UN Security Council to win back the territory from the well-armed rebels.
