United States slaps sanctions against Chhota Shakeel, Tiger Memon

As per latest report, Chhota Shakeel and Ibrahim Tiger Memon are slapped under the United State sanctions in a move “to target the nexus of crime and terrorism in South Asia”.

Both are the two top aides of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim India’s most wanted terrorist designated the President as a Significant Foreign Narcotics Trafficker. This was the Ibrahim who is being alleged responsible for the 1993 Mumbai bombings in which 257 people dead.

Dawood Ibrahim is the mastermind to run the D Company “one of the world’s most notorious criminal organizations”, said to be live in Karachi, Pakistan and is in charge of control criminal gangs in Mumbai’s business hub.

These two lieutenants of Ibrahim are designated by the Treasury Department on Tuesday as drug traffickers of D Company, source reported. As result of being sanctioned, their entire assets under US jurisdiction and bars Americans from doing business with them will have frozen.

In a statement, Adam Szubin, director of treasury’s office of foreign assets control, stated, “Treasury continues to target the nexus of crime and terrorism in South Asia with today’s action against one the world’s most notorious criminal organizations.”

According to treasury, Dawood Ibrahim and his organization have been involved in international narcotics trafficking activities since the late 1980s. Their smuggling heroin and hashish routes from Afghanistan and Thailand to the U.S, Europe, the Mideast, Latin America and Africa, source said.

Denied the Indian police report regarding Ibrahim residency in Pakistan, Pakistan said Ibrahim was not there. However, provisional arrest warrants for both Shakeel and Memon, who are Indian nationals has been issued by Interpol.
