Vishal Bhardwaj: Aamir Khan wanted to play Langda Tyagi in Omkara

The role of Langda Tyagi in Omkara by actor Saif Ali Khan has been turned out to be a turning point in his Bollywood career, but the director Vishal Bhardwaj has recently said that it was Aamir Khan who was keen to do the role of Langda Tyagi initially.

The film, Omkara, released in 2006 and it was a huge hit film of the year.

Talking to media, Vishal said, “There was a film we were planning to make, but it got shelved after a year because of some differences.”

He said, “During that time I used to tell Aamir about this character Langda Tyagi and Othello, so he encouraged me to do something on it and said he will play that role. He told me to come to him after a year when the script is ready but this time I did not want to fall into his trap so I went to Saif,.”

Further, the filmmaker said, “I thought if Aamir is interested in some character it might have some potential. And I saw that hunger in Saif’s eyes; he was desperate to shed that lover boy image.”

Vishal Bhardwaj was talking to media on the sidelines of NFDC Film Bazaar.

Actor Saif Ali Khan won the Filmfare award for his superb performance as Langda Tyagi in the film.
