VVS Laxman announces retirement from International Cricket

The ‘Very Very Special’ cricketer from Team India, VVS Laxman has finally announced his retirement from the International cricket on Saturday, however, he was selected for the two-test match series against New Zealand.

VVS Laxman, the 37-year-old cricket, has called ‘immediate effect’ of his retirement from cricket at a press conference at his home town Hyderabad.

Talking to media, Laxman said, “It’s been 16 years since I made my international debut for India and I feel it’s the right time for me to move on.”

So far, the cricketer played 134 test matches scoring 8781 runs with an average of 45.97 and hit 17 hundreds and 56 fifties during his career.

VVS Laxman also played 86 ODIs scoring 2338 runs with an average of 30.76 and hitting 6 hundreds and 10 fifties.

VVS Laxman said, “I have always kept the country’s success and needs ahead of my personal aspirations and I would have loved to contribute to the team’s success especially against England and Australia later in the season.”

“I think it’s the right time to give opportunity to a youngster in home conditions before the tough overseas tours next year,” Laxman said.

Earlier this year, The Wall, Rahul Dravid also called his retirement from International cricket. Now, master blaster Sachin Tendulkar is the only senior cricketer playing in the national team of the country.
