A day ahead when CBI special court claiming the right of parity with the 13 accused who all has been granted the relief, Former Telecom Minister A Raja moved the Delhi High Court for his bail.
His move came following former Telecom Secretary Siddharth Behura’s release with right of parity by Supreme Court on Rs5 lakh surety and Rs10 lakh bail bond.
As after Behura, facing similar charges as like Raja, this is only Raja who accused in the 2G spectrum allocation in 2008 case yet to get bail and in Tihar Central Jail from Feb 2, 2011.
During 15 months from his arrest, it is for first time that Raja has approached court for bail, a day before his 49th birthday. Appealing for bail, Raja said, he is innocent and the case against him is false and fabricated.
“The case against the petitioner (Raja) is false and fabricated and is not sustainable on law or on facts. The petitioner is innocent and is likely to get acquitted. All the individual accused persons in this case, except the petitioner, have been released on bail …. The petitioner is entitled to bail on the grounds of parity,” Raja said in four-page bail plea, supported by DMK Chief M Karunanidhi, source said.
Briefing reason of his bail, Raja, said due to inability to approach the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the Parliament and the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) that looking into various aspects of this matter, on account of his being in custody, he should be grant bail.
Reacting over Raja’s plea, the apex court said Behura bail was granted because probing inside of his into the case was complete. It also directed issuing notice to the CBI and asked to reply on May 11 on Raja’s plea.
