Abhijeet Mukherjee kicks up controversy, later apologises

As per latest news, Abhijeet Mukherjee, President Pranab Mukherjee’s son and MP, on Thursday gave an unexpected statement which created a controversy on the Delhi agitation which he had described as a `nautanki’ (drama).

Talking to media, Abhijeet Mukherjee descried the entire incident as ‘dented and painted’. He said good looking women giving interviews to various news channels.

He said, “I doubt these things.. from appearance, they did not appear to be students… Today students walk the streets with candlelights, go to discotheques..in our days we led a different life as a student.”

However, his statements created strong reactions from the opposition parties and from other parts of the society. Thereafter, Abhijeet Mukherjee apoligised saying that it was not his intention to hurt anybody.

Though, he added that his statements were interpreted wrongly and were taken out of context.

Abhijeet is a Lok Sabha MP from the Jangipur community of Murshidabad district in West Bengal. He won the seat with very less margin after his father’s resignation from the Lok Sabha membership before becoming President.
