The ban on bulk SMSes and MMSes were imposed by the central government after the nationwide rumours of attack on the northeast people and the govt ordered telecom sector to ban bulk SMS in the country. Read more
The central government of the country on Thursday announced that the cut back on bulk SMS as well as MMS will remains but now customers can send 20 SMS per day instead of 5 a day.
As per the instruction released by Ministry of Communications, mobile users can send maximum of 20 SMSes with not more than 25kb of data from Thursday. Read more
The central government has taken a hard decision to ban bulk SMS and MMS in the country for 15 days; this is due to rumours spread by using SMSes and MMSes which led Northeast exodus from states like Pune, Bangalore and Mumbai.

It is announced by the telecom operators that bulk SMSes is only applicable on prepaid customers.
Most of the telecom operators have prepaid customer, the limit on sending SMSes had disturbed the normal life of them. Talking to media, a prepaid user said, “We play football every Sunday and usually co-ordinate through messages on Saturday night. I had to call 25 people and inform them of the schedule personally.” Read more
