The India’s largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki has shut down its Manesar plant which mainly produces Swift on Wednesday after a clash between workers and management moved violently, fired premises.
According to reports, one worker died because of burning injuries, atleast 85 have been injured including three company officials that have admitted to a hospital.
The police registered FIR against 50 workers on charge of attempt to murder and damage to property, amongst them 20 workers has been arrested.
Still, there is no information about how the major fire started on premises and no identification of the dead person.
“The sequence of events began in the morning with a worker beating up a supervisor on the shop floor. The workers’ union prevented the management from taking disciplinary action against the worker. They blocked the exit gates and held the executives hostage,” the company said in a statement.
Claiming the clash between both parties was because of differences over wages, it further said that while members of the senior management met and talked the union, the workers attacked the senior management.
Meanwhile, working in Manesar plant has been stopped due to unrest voilence, Haryana Commission promised to take strict actions against culprits.
