Maruti Suzuki sales drop 5 per cent in May 2012

Maruti Suzuki, the largest car manufacturer of the country has recently announced in its reports that the company’s May month sale has recorded a drop of 4.99 percent in total sales at 98,884 units.

It is said in reports that Maruti Suzuki had sold 1,04,073 units in the month of May in 2011.

However, in May 2012, the company recorded domestic sales at 89,478 units as against 93,519 units in the last year, experiencing a fall of 4.32 percent.

In the same way, company’s exports unit also reported a fall of 10.88 percent to 9,406 units in May 2012 as compared to 10,554 units in the same period of the last year.

In a statement issued by the company, it said, “Total passenger car sales in the domestic market declined by 5.94 per cent to 72,309 units from 76,874 units in the same month of 2011.”

Sales of MSI’s mini-segment cars, such as the M800, A-Star, Alto and WagonR has recorded a drop of 29.03 per cent to 29,895 units in May 2012, as compared to 42,125 units in the same period of the last year.

Conversely, in the compact segment (comprising the Estilo, Swift and Ritz models), Maruti Suzuki India recorded a 14.66 percent growth in sales to 24,290 units as compared to the 21,185 units in the same period of 2011.

The statement said, “Sales of MSI’s DZiRE model increased by 63.77 per cent to 17,707 units in May, from 10,812 units in the same month last year.”

Meanwhile, the company’s mid-sized sedan SX4 sales fell 85.01 percent to 405 units in May 2012 compared to 2,702 units in May 2011.

Luxury sedan Kizashi experienced 76 percent drop in sales at 12 units as against 50 units in the year-ago month.
