Nation remembers Rajiv Gandhi on his 68th birth anniversary

The President of the country Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today led the country in paying tributes to late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his 68th birth anniversary today.

Senior leaders from the party were also present at the Vir Bhumi to pay tribute to Rajiv Gandhi.

In addition, wife of late Prime Minister and Congress chief, Sonia Gandhi, daughter Priyanka Vadra and her husband Robert Vadra were also present their to pay tribute.

However, Rahul Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi’s son and Congress General Secretary was not seen during the prayer.

Other ministers present at the occasion were Defence Minister AK Antony, Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar, Deputy Chairman Planning Commission Montek Singh Ahluwalia, Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office, V Narayanswamy.

Further, school children, wearing white dress, marched towards Vir Bhumi with a Tricolour to present a performance showing communal harmony.

Moreover, the late Prime Minister, who emphasized the information and communication technology uprising in India, was born on August 20, 1944 and server the nation as 6th Prime Minister from 1984-1989.

However, he was assassinated by the LTTE on May 21, 1991 at Sriperumbudur in Kanchipuram district of Tamil Nadu while addressing an election campaign.
