Indian President Pratibha Patil was booed in parliament during delivered her speech to the Joint Sitting of Parliament because of multiple interruptions made by the opposition.
While she revealed plans regarding future of the government, the opposition disrupts her last address, raising their voices in form of disapproval on several issues.
Even BJP, the opposition party has described her speech as “lacklustre”. As per them, President’s speech that hoped to be uneventful had neither any new inspirations nor direction about the challenges to federalism.
BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar who was presented in meeting of Parliament told reporters, “The speech is lackluster because there is no new direction. It is prepared by the government. It is just a list of what has been done which is not enough. Whether it is on the issue of NCTC, RPF, communal violance bill or several bills of the HRD ministry, the states have not been taken into confidence. This is an attack on federal structure and no mention of this is there in the President’s speech.”
Claiming the central government to grab all the powers from the states through various laws without consulting them, BJP has showed rejection over the President supportive decision to the National Counter Terrorism Centre.
Sub-quota of 4.5 percent for minority communities in OBC category, Sri Lanka and Telangana and fertilizers, are the main issues that were raised during speech.
Finally govt. approval has granted to pass the Sub quota of 4.5% reservation and mentioned the steps of being taken to increase fertiliser production so that farmers can receive fertilizers at proper time.
During her speech, she also announced govt. decision to support Sri Lanka in the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC).
“My Government also initiated steps for resettlement and rehabilitation of the internally displaced persons in Sri Lanka,” she said.
But MPs of DMK and AIADMK decided to oppose it and began shouting, “We can not support Sri Lanka.” On other side as like them, Congress MPs started shouting with their demand “the creation of the state of Telangana”.
Over all scene of Parliament was so disruptive that at a time Speaker Meira Kumar asked MPs to take their seat and listened President’s speech with great support.
