Pune BPO Employee Rape cum Murder case, HC delivers verdict

Finally, Bombay High Court awarded death sentences to two convicts in the rape and murder of 22-year-old Jyotikumari Choudhary who was raped and killed in Pune on November 1, 2007.

The death of victim who was a Wipro BPO employee observed to put strong impact on society over women safety and traveling as out of two convicts, one is of driver and other his friend.

“We are confirming the conviction. The trial court has not erred in convicting the two. But on sentencing we would like to hear more arguments from both the defence and prosecution lawyers regarding mitigating circumstances and so on,” the court said.

On 1 November 2007, when the victim was going to her home in company’s assisting cab after working off her night duty in Hinjewadi on the outskirts of Pune, Purshottam Borate, the driver of cab along with his friend Pradip Kokate had raped and killed brutally her, as per media information.

After a day of her murder, the body of victim was found at Wadgaon, off the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. It has been said that the convicts had used victim’s dupatta to kill her and badly smashed her face with a stone and sharp weapon to hide her identity.

However, still the case would be carry on as the convicts decided to challenge in a higher court, claiming that they are arrested under false allegations on basis of fabricated evidence submitted by police.
