Samsung ordered to pay $1 billion to Apple

Finally, along waiting trial on Apple-Samsung legal battle has over as a nine-member jury in a federal court of California favored Apple’s claim on patent infringement by Samsung Electronics Co and awarded more than $1.05 billion on Friday.

Rejecting South Korean Samsung’s counter appeals, the federal court ruled that Samsung found guilty of infringing on Apple’s design of rectangles with rounded corners and utility patents on six of seven smartphone design had copied Apple’s iPad and iPhone patent, violating patent rights.

Both worlds’ market dominant sued each other in many countries, while California was the first to be ruled by a US jury in favour of Apple which claimed $2.75 billion against Samsung’s infringement act for its four products patents and three software patents. But in counter appeal, Samsung demanded much than Apple of $421.8 million in royalties claiming Apple copied its 5 patents.

In wake of tech patent rights, two dominant of world market – Samsung and Apple- has been fighting with lawsuits since 2010, when Samsung’s Galaxy smartphones launched in market and immediately Apple sued Samsung to copy is iPhone.

Around more than two dozen of Samsung’s devices reported to be infringed Apple’s technology rights including Galaxy S, Galaxy S II, Nexus S, Epic 4G Touch, Droid Charge and Nexus S smartphones, the Galaxy Tab and Tab 10.1 tablets and many more , except for Galaxy Ace, Intercept, and Replenish, report said.

According to source report, in case of the Tab, the jury award $220,000 in damages, while on the Intercept no infringement was noted but Samsung was asked to shell out over $2 million over this error.
