Sony aims 30% market share of flat panel TVs

Japanese electronics major Sony is eyeinga 30 percent market share in the flat panel TV segment in India by the end of this financial year, a top company executive said Friday.

“At present we have a 27 percent market share in the flat panel TV segment. We are eyeing a 30 percent market share by the end of this fiscal,” Sony India senior general manager (sales) Sunil Nayyar told reporters here.

Nayyar said the company, which has its flagship brand Bravia, was aiming at the number one position in the flat panel segment in the country at the end of 2012-13.

He was in the city to launch the new EX Series of flat panel televisions.

The firm, which registered about Rs.6,300 crore total revenue last fiscal in the country, is also eyeing to clock over Rs.8,000 crore top line at the end of this fiscal.

Informing that festive season in the country generally contributed about 30 percent of the company’s total sales in a year on pan-India basis, Nayyar said: “We expect Durga Puja festive period to contribute 37 percent to the total sales of east India.” (IANS)
