WHO removes India from list of nations with Polio

On Saturday at the concluding day of the 2-day Polio Summit organised by the health ministry and Rotary International in New Delhi, Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad said, “I assure that India will be most willing to extend all possible support and effort needed for global elimination of polio. We are with Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Nigeria in the eradication of polio.”

Govt won’t take solid action on homosexuality

Indian govt. still confused to take a clear stand on “homosexuality”, hesitating to represent its arguments before the Supreme Court on Thursday.

The Supreme Court ire while Additional Solicitor-General PP Malhotra first told the court that same-sex relations were “highly immoral and against societal order,” only to have the government clarify later.

A strong criticism of the government for its failure to clarify its position on the 2009 Delhi high court (HC) verdict decriminalizing homosexuality is the main reason behind its volte-face and said it had not taken a stand on the issue.

Drug trails should follow proper procedures: Ghulam Nabi Azad

Monday, court has issued a notice to the Union Government on a plea of the NGO, Swasthya Adhikar Manch, seeking investigation of “illegal and unethical” clinical trials of drugs and directed pharmaceutical companies and hospitals to conduct these trials by getting approval of the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI).

“There are certain procedures for clinical trial and the apex body needs to be 100% sure that all these procedures are followed step-by-step. Even the drug controller general of India sees to it that the procedure is followed properly,” Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad said.

The multinational medical companies are not conduct trials as per procedures and this cause of putting dangerous impact on the life of people on whom the tests are being carried out.
