A Controversial author Salman Rushdie on Saturday attacked Congress to block his presence just because of “useless electoral calculations.”

Targeting Rahul Gandhi, he said blocking his presence in Jaipur Literary Festival did not work “led to the debacle” of Congress in Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.

During participation in Literacy session in India Today Conclave, the renewed author said the India “deserves to be led by better leaders than is being now”.

Pranab Mukherjee, Omar Abdullah left out of India Today Conclave

Salman Rushdie, who is presented at the India Today Conclave, is the reason of canceling the participation of Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee and Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in the conclave.

On Saturday, both ministers had to be presented for the literary session of the two-day annual conclave, but while they knew the addressing of controversial author Salman Rushdie they immediately dropped out their schedule.

From Friday, Rushdie has been in capital for giving his participation at the literacy session in conclave at a five-star hotel.

Salman Rushdie visit: Rajasthan Chief Minister demands more security

Salman Rushdie, the writer of the novel “The Satanic Verses” in which irrelevant content were published, visit to India for Jaipur Literature Festival.

Salman Rushdie brushes off calls for ‘blaspemy’ ban

In India an influential Islamic seminary demanded that Salman Rashdie should be banned from entering the country to attend a literature festival later this month, but British author Salman Rushdie has dismissed their demand.

Along with his fellow writers such as Lionel Shriver and Richard Dawkins, Rushdieis due to speak in the city of Jaipur . He was threatened with death in a “fatwa” order from Iran over his 1988 novel “The Satanic Verses”.

However the world’s most important Islamic universities The Darululoom Deoband seminary has been accused in the media of inspiring radical Islamic groups such as the Taliban.

Calling Indian govt. for cancelling Rushdie’s Visa, Maulana Qasim Nomani, a seminary official said, ” The man whose blasphemous writings have hurt the sentiments of Muslims all over the world must not be allowed to set foot on Indian soil.”

Cancel Salam Rushdie’s visa, demands Islamic Seminary

Salman Rushdie, the famous writer, is being used as a political weapon in Uttar Pradesh when the Darul-Uloom Deoband’s demand to ban the entry of Salman in the country.

Rushdie, writer of “The Satanic Verses” book, earned the wrath of Muslims worldwide for his book. The writer is scheduled to presented in the January 20-24 [Jaipur Literature Festival] in Rajasthan’s capital.

But the request for canceling Salman’s visa to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi had attended by Maulana Mufti Abul Qasim Nomani, the Deoband chief. In his statement, he said, “In case of no response from the UPA government, the Darul-Uloom Deoband will take appropriate action.”

“In view of the UP assembly election, the entry could generate reaction. The Jaipur programme should be cancelled,” Rasheed Masood who is the newly-inducted Congress working committee member informed.
