The freshly, the Universities Grants Commission (UGC) announced on Saturday to have compulsory its approval for all joined Indian and foreign institutions within six month as per its news regulations.
According to its new criteria, Only those foreign institutions having with tie up with Indian counterparts that figure in the top 500 of global ranking by Times Higher Education World University Ranking/Shanghai Jiaotong ranking can enter into collaboration and will allowed to offer twinning programmes.
Announcing its new regulations, UGC also ensured that the Indian varsities should have received the highest accreditation grade from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) fulfilling eligibility for a joint agreement with a foreign institution.
“We would like only quality academic institutions to establish programmes here to protect students’ interests. We will issue a public notice and also put up a list on our website detailing approved institutions so that students are not duped,” Prof Ved Prakash, UGC acting chairman told reporters.
However, for acceptability in India, the Indian universities will awarded to students, while in case of any failure in following set of new guidelines, they would be penalized by withdrawal of grants.
At recent time period where over 600 foreign universities run in India, both Foreign and Indian educators prefer adopting twinning mode due to least stakes and maximum income and less cost for a foreign degree, while chances of faking and several risk factors in absence of regulatory are grown, report said.
By this move, UGC plans to ensure quality of foreign institutions, allowing them to function as “deemed universities” with set up campus on hold as a need for greater deliberations.
