Vice president poll: UPA renominates Ansari, Trinamool not concure

Vice Presidential polls are scheduled on Aug 7, but politically tension raised just one month ahead over amid mismatched favourable candidate nomination.

Union Agriculture Minister and NCP chief Sharad Pawar has named Hamid Ansari for re nominated for the post of Vice President of India. Even UPA-led Congress president Sonia Gandhi also announced to be favoured Ansari’s candidature at a meeting of UPA leaders, held at P M’s official residence.

Besides major voting to Ansari’s choice, UPA ally Trinamool Congress not satisfied with alliance’s choice, the same happened with choice of Mukherjee as the presidential candidate.

Issue has raised while Home Minister P. Chidambaram told reporters that the decision to nominate Ansari was “unanimous” “accepted by all leaders present”, including the Trinamool Congress, though TMC had named former West Bengal governor Gopalkrishna Gandhi and former MP Krishna Bose for another term of poll.

After attending the UPA party on Saturday, representing TMC, Railways Minister Mukul Roy, denied Chidambaram statement to have unanimity, refused to take any name for the post of Vice President at Saturday’s meeting.

He confirmed reporters, “No name has been proposed to us nor am I having any name for the post of Vice President. Whatever will be communicated to me or discussed in the meeting, I will communicate to my party leadership. The party will decide on the subject. I am not competent to decide.”

“We spoke our names. They conveyed their names… I will go back to the party. The party will decide,” he further added.

Moreover, Ansari who was posted as vice president in 2007, is going to end his term on Aug 10. He accepted his re-nomination by UPA with NCP “with all humility” for once again playing his second term as vice president of India.
