On Friday, a guard ceremony has been taken in honour of Gen Singh as the 25th chief of Army staff (COAS) at South Block.

“I am deeply honoured to take over as the 25th Chief of Indian Army. I assure that that the Indian Army will continue to do its duty,” Mr. Singh said in his first interaction with media.

Speaking with reporters, he promised to probe into the allegation of a fake encounter the officers of the Dimapur Corps intelligence unit in Nagaland’s Dimapur district.

According to source report, the former General V.K. Singh, retired on May 31 this year, said that the complaint to probe allegations had sent to the 3 Corps headquarters, but shocking fact was that no probe had been followed.

However, the new Army chief who promised to have a transparent probe over the fake encounter told reporters, “There was a letter sent by my chief of staff to 3 Corps to investigate allegations. There is nothing that should be brushed under the carpet. I assure you.”

The case is under the general officer commanding (GOC) of 3 Corps, Lt Gen Dalbir Singh Suhag who is directed to probe and finalise a report, as per sources said.

Earlier, there were many controversies surrounded across the Army office, the one most controversial Chief is General VK Singh.
Refusing to say about VK Singh, the new Army Chief dismissing much difference between the Army and the civilian leadership, said,“…look through the windscreen and not through the rear view. Don’t want to look back, want to concentrate on future.”
“We are a disciplined force and all the cases will be dealt by the rule book…nothing will be brushed under the carpet,” Mr. Singh told reporters.

Even just a day ahead of his retirement, another issue has raised while defamation plea filed against him over violating the Army Act of 1950 and defaming former retired Lieutenant General Tejinder Singh. On direction of Defence Minister AK Antony, CBI is probing the allegations.
