Today is a very special day for the Narendra Modi led government in Gujarat. The court will decide the sentence for the main accused that includes BJP MLA and former minister Maya Kodnani and Bajrang Dal leader Babu Bajrangi.

The Naroda Patiya case is expected to be sentenced today.

The court has named accused 30 others in the Gujarat Riots that left 97 people killed. The Ahmedabad court will sentence punishment for the 32 convicted today. The judgement will be delivered by Judge Jyotsana Yagnik.

The verdict was very hard for the BJP govt in the state. Maya Kodnani, first-woman MLA in the Modi govt, was named in the Godhra Riots. She was charged under sections 120 B (criminal conspiracy) and 302 (murder) of India Penal Code (IPC), the maximum punishment will be death sentence in the case.

Moreover, the Naroda Patiya case was considered as the largest mass murder case in Gujarat in 2002. the Sabarmati Express train carnage near Godhra railway station.

The Naroda Patiya case is being probed by a Supreme Court-appointed Special Investigating Team (SIT).
