Guwahati molestation: alleged journalist resigns, key accused absconding

Making the national outcry, in the Guwahati molestation case after 48 hours deadline set by Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, the police have arrested three more accused molesters, adding toll of arresting men to 11.

However, as per reports, still the key accused in the case Amar Jyoti Kalita is at large, being abscond. Assam police promised the government to take immediate action against molesters responsible for victim molestation in Guwahati.

Around 25-30 men were accused to assaulting a 16-year-old girl in Guwahati on July 9 and molested in public view based on a video recorded by a local television journalist, Gaurav Jyoti Neog.

Gaurav allegedly instigating the mob which molested the minor in Guwahati outside a bar, but while denied all allegations, he resigned on Sunday, as reports said.

“There are allegations levelled against me that I orchestrated the molestation on the girl on GS Road on the night on July 9. I strongly deny and refute the allegations as malicious and wild,” he said.

According to source, Assam director general of police of Assam JN Choudhury said there was prima facie evidence suggesting that the whole incident was orchestrated by a journalist of a local channel, the police would soon be questioned and arrested.

Over all case is on Journalist, whose role terming as “unethical”, Gogoi said that journalist should have informed police first.

As per Assam Police, Kalia is reportedly in Bhubneswa, Odisha and for giving any information about him; the person would be awarded with a cash reward of Rs 50,000, announced by police, also Rs.25, 000 each for information about the rest of the alleged attackers who are on the run.

“We are investigating the case. There are some reports from Bhubneswar that prime accused Amarjyoti Kalita has been hiding there,” Ranjan Bhuyan, Additional Superintendent of Police said in a statement.

Beside, Assam government has taken strict action regarding these incidents and seeking not repeated. For that strict instructions have been given to all bar owners in Guwahati to install close circuit television cameras and post private security guard on the gate leading to the bar, the official said.

Meanwhile, speed up investigations has carried out to arrest all the 14 culprits. A special team of investigations has set up headed by an SP, including a lady officer.
