India’s Shilpa Singh out of Miss Universe title

India’s 12-years long wait is not yet over as India’s Shilpa Singh lost in the finals of the 2012 beauty pageant here on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Miss USA Olivia Culpo was crowned the new Miss Universe.

Shilpa Singh, the 23-years-old girl from Bihar earlier made her way in the final 16 of the Miss Universe held at Planet Hollywood casino on the Las Vegas Strip, but she failed to make it to top 10.

Shilpa is a software engineer and dancer by profession and she competed with 80 beauty queens around the world for the title.

Meanwhile, Miss USA Olivia Culpo took the crown from Leila Lopes of Angola after strutting in a purple and blue bikini and a red velvet gown.

The second position was captured by Miss Philippines, Janine Tugonon and third was Miss Venezuela, Irene Sofia Esser Quintero. Andy Cohen of the Bravo network and Giuliana Rancic returned to host the pageant, which was back in Las Vegas after being held in Sao Paulo in 2011.

Further, the panel of 10 judges included singer Cee Lo Green, “Iron Chef” star Masaharu Morimoto and Pablo Sandoval of the San Francisco Giants.

Participants from 89 nations on 6 continents spent over two weeks in the Sin City.
