Pronouncing its final decision in the high profile death case of poetess Madhumita Shukla today, the Uttarakhand High Court upheld the life term punishment awarded to former Samajwadi Party MP Amarmani Tripathi.
As per reports, all other accused in the case, including Amarmani’s wife, Madhumani has also awarded punishment by court.
Shukla was murdered at her Lucknow flat on May 9, 2003 at the behest of Amarmani’s wife when she knew that the poetess had affairs with her husband.
As per source said, after investigation it has showed that she was pregnant. It is sexpected that the child was of Amarmani who wanted her to abort, but because of opposing it he got her killed.
However, source said, Prakash Chandra Pandey, the man accused of having shot dead Madhumita, was acquitted on grounds of lack of evidence.
In 2007, Amarmani, his wife and other two accused of his nephew Rohit Chaturvedi and an acquaintance Santosh Roy were found guilty of the Shukla murder in October 2007 and the Dehradun special court sentenced them to life imprisonment, refusing to death penalty as demanded by CBI.
Since then a decade ago, Tripathi has made several attempts to get bail and Shukla’s relatives have been fighting a long legal battle for justice.
