Changing its portfolio, Nokia India has appointed P Balaji as Vice-president and Managing Director, promoting its predecessor Mr D. Shivkumar as the Senior Vice-President for the IMEA region to handle operation globally.
Before appointing as Nokia’s Vice-president, Balaji was the managing director of Sony Mobile Communications India and has experienced IT and telecom sector over two decades, was worked for Ericsson, Lucent, AT&T and Tata Group.
Now resigning from Sony, he has moved to Nokia, focusing on to build Nokia’s position in Indian market.
According to reports, he will be responsible for efficient working of organization as an India head for more than six months. Balaji will handle all operation regarding Nokia’s mobile and smart phone devices, expanding business and major of strategic and operational oriented.
“Balaji has an excellent track record of managing businesses, people, customer and government relationships. His experience and leadership make him a strong addition to our India leadership team.” Nokia India’s senior vice-president, D Shivakumar said.
An electronics engineer from IIT and an MBA from IIM, Balaji will face first challenge to enhance presence of Nokia in the smartphone market segment.
While announcing appointment of Balaji, source said, the company said that Balaji will also focus on energising the Nokia brand, driving partnerships and strategic alliances and developing the capabilities of Nokia India.
