Republican U.S. presidential nomination is on a great tensed form as Romney who won easily in his home state, secured a close victory in Ohio but failed to put a knockout blow against rival Rick Santorum on “Super Tuesday”.

Santorum and Romney both were in the race of the party’s establishment by raising the prospect of a drawn-out battle for the Republican presidential nomination, with Ohio the biggest prize among 10 states holding contests on Tuesday.

But after announcing the results, Romney underscored with his continued inability to win over large swathes of the Republican base.

Even Romney won past five of the 10 state contests, carried momentum into “Super Tuesday,” and held a narrow lead in Ohio, as he needed Some 419 of the 1,144 delegates to win the party’s nomination.

However he led his powerful victory in liberal-leaning Vermont and in Idaho, also won Virginia, where Santorum failed to qualify for the ballot.

But eyes of all Russian were set on Ohio, a politically divided state sure to be hotly contested in the November 6 election between the eventual Republican nominee and Democratic President Barack Obama.

And on basis of poll results that indicated that Ohio voters beside Romney as more likely to Obama, but thought Santorum was more sympathetic to average Americans’ concerns.

Getting more votes in form of support, Santorum land a victory that one day before seemed to be failure.

Santorum said his victories in Tennessee, Oklahoma and North Dakota proved he was the best candidate to represent the party’s conservative philosophy.

Over 90% of counted votes, Romney who campaigned in and around the state’s largest cities led Santorum by 38 percent to 37 percent who carried the rural areas.
