Sri Lanka Govt warns citizens not to visit Tamil Nadu

According to latest reports, the central government of Sri Lanka has issued a travel advisory which state its citizens should not visit Tamil Nadu due to the growing number of instances of intimidation of Sri Lankans in the state.

The report issued by the External Affairs Ministry of Sri Lanka said, “The Government of Sri Lanka regrets the increasing number of instances of intimidation of Sri Lankan nationals visiting Tamil Nadu for the purposes of tourism, religious pilgrimages, sporting and cultural activities and professional training.”

Sri Lanka’s govt has requested its citizens not to visit Tamil Nadu till further statement released by the officials.

The statement said, “In the event there is a compelling reason to visit Tamil Nadu, such a visit should take place following prior timely intimation to the Sri Lanka Deputy High Commission in Chennai.”

Further, the ministry said that around 184 Sri Lankan tourists will be visiting the Poornimatha Church in Thanjavur have been mobbed and taken refuge in the church.

Earlier, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa said that Sri Lanka football team should be sent back.

The state chief minister is not in favour of India training Sri Lankan military personnel, saying that Sri Lanka had committed war against Tamils.
