Morsi’s Islamist Draft Charter win ‘Yes’ majority in votes
All Egyptians’ eyes are on result of second phase of a referendum on Islamist-backed constitution which reported to reached with a “yes” majority despite the opposition’s claim of voting fraud.
In a final round of voting on a referendum of a divisive constitution, a low voter turnout – 8 million of the 25 million- has resulted but with deep divisions after weeks of protests and violence.
Reports are that Saturday’s voting in 17 of Egypt’s 27 provinces was the second and final round in which 71.4 % voters among 95.5% of the ballots said “yes”, as per Islamist President Mohammed Morsi’s Muslim Brotherhood . Read more
Egyptians votes on Draft Constitution Referendum
Today, Egyptian all set to vote in first stage of a referendum on a draft constitution, heavily supported by Egypt President Mohammed Morsi has divided the country into two sections- opponents of the draft charter and Islamist.
Voting process in referendum will be run in two stages, under the Morsi’s decree.
More than 51 million people are to make their votes in polling which started at 8:00 am in Cairo, Alexandria and eight other provinces and is to end at 7 pm in the first round, while second round with rest of the Egyptians votes on December 22, reports said. Read more
Egyptian President Morsi annuls ‘sweeping power’ decree
Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi on Saturday has annulled a decree that had issued last November for granting him sweeping powers, for ease huge anger of protesters that turned to violent clashes, left seven people dead and hundreds injured.
As per media information, Morsi has issued a new decree to cancel his previous much controversial which had rid off the judiciary right to challenge President’s decision.
However, there is no change over the referendum on a draft constitution drafted by an Islamist-dominated assembly that would still go ahead as planned on December 15. Read more
