Egyptians votes on Draft Constitution Referendum

Today, Egyptian all set to vote in first stage of a referendum on a draft constitution, heavily supported by Egypt President Mohammed Morsi has divided the country into two sections- opponents of the draft charter and Islamist.

Voting process in referendum will be run in two stages, under the Morsi’s decree.

More than 51 million people are to make their votes in polling which started at 8:00 am in Cairo, Alexandria and eight other provinces and is to end at 7 pm in the first round, while second round with rest of the Egyptians votes on December 22, reports said. Read more

Situation tensed in Egypt, Army deploys tanks outside Presidential palace

Just outside the Egyptian Presidential palace in Cairo, the Egyptian Army has deployed around six tanks ablaze between supporters and opponents of first Islamist President Mohamed Morsi.

As per reports, violent clashes have erupted between thousands of Morsi supporters Muslim Brotherhood and opposition activists who had been staging a sit-in outside a presidential building in the Cairo suburb of Heliopolis, protesting against Morsi. Read more

Egypt’s top court adjourns as Morsi sets date for referendum

Amid Islamist protest against Egypt’s President Mohammed Morsi’s decree of granting himself sweeping power, on Saturday Morsi has set date December 15 for a referendum on a disputed draft constitution.

While the issue took in Egypt’s highest Constitutional Court on Sunday, a dispute erupted on whether to dissolve the panel or boycott, between some of the country’s top judges and the head of state, resulting adjourning of court’s work completely.

The matter could not be solved until judges could operate without “psychological and material pressure” as the next step in the standoff in the hands of the Constitutional Court, as per reports. Read more
