Yuvraj Singh 150x150 Yuvraj Singh nominated for Arjun Awards by BCCIHere comes good news for the millions of Yuvraj Singh fans, the Board of Control for Cricket in India [BCCI] has finally decided to place start cricketer Yuvraj Singh’s name for the highly status award, Arjuna award after the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs extended the date to file the nominees.

Earlier, BCCI failed to give any cricketers name for the award, saying that Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs didn’t inform them about it.

In regards to this, the Sports Ministry extended the date for filing nominations for Arjuna awards to July 20. The previous date to file the nominations was April 30.

While talking to media, an official from BCCI said, “The joint secretary of ministry of sports Mukul Chatterjee personally called up to inform that the last date for filing the Arjuna award nomination has been extended till July 20. After the telephonic conversation, the BCCI has also received a fax stating the same from the ministry.”

There were predictions that team India’s vice-captain Virat Kohli is also the strong contestant for the award as he played superbly in the last season, and other strong name was Ravichandran Ashwin.

However, the BCCI official said, “Whatever miscommunication existed is a thing of past now. Obviously, we will be filing nominations. The BCCI president, secretary and the national selectors will assess as to who is the most eligible candidate for the award.”

Yuvraj Singh was awarded with Man-of-the-Series award in the 2011 World Cup for his all-round performance. He took 15 wickets and scored 362 runs in the World Cup.

Currently, he is working hard to recover from a germ-cell cancer and undergoing practice at the National Cricket Academy [NCA].

BCCI official said, “Both the players have done well for India. While Yuvraj played a crucial role in us winning the World Cup, Kohli has been consistent.”

The final decision on the Arjun award name will be taken on July 16 in Mumbai by the BCCI president N Srinivasan, Secretary Sanjay Jagdale and the national selectors.
