The illegal drug trials is now be a major issue for govt. and recently the Madhya Pradesh government has chosen an action to let the doctors guilty of conducting illegal drug trials.
But as a punishment for an act that could have had disastrous consequences on the health of the people on whom the trials were conducted, the govt. charges a very little amount as a fine of ‘ 5,000’. This shows that how much the state govt. is aware about the public health consequences.
However a case of conducting medical trials on people without their consent has been come in front of Health department.
There are 12 doctors, who work in government hospitals in Indore, displayed scant regard for medical ethics.
Sometimes the doctors duped the poor victims by presenting the tests as free vaccination. Not even a one- day old infant – who was administered a mysterious ‘vaccine’ after his mother was made to sign ‘blank’ papers – bears testimony to their lack of humanity.
In fact this is the third incident of Madhya Pradesh state in the recent past. If the state govt. must not take strict actions against these doctors, these cases seem to be conducting a major scam. This has shown by the fact that only in one city of Indore more than 1,883 people have been subjected to illegal drug trials.
To stop the happening of such trials cases, the need is to create much awareness by issuing guidelines that provides the space for such rackets.
No doubt, the Drugs and Cosmetics Rules 2005 make it easy for multinational pharma companies to conduct drug trials in India but state government should take strict and exemplary actions against its violators and defined a hard punishment for them as they disgrace a guilty for medical profession.
